Talen’s March 4, 2024 release sold its 960 MW Cumulus data-center campus beside the 2.5 GW Susquehanna Steam Electric Station. AWS is the buyer. Salem Township later rezoned about 1,600 acres for a Special Data Center Overlay; reporting on that vote described a 15-building campus over the next decade.
Talen sold the campus to AWS for $650 million in 2024 — land and the first hall, not full build-out.
Behind-the-meter nuclear interconnection has been a FERC fight; contracted nuclear supply and on-site IT load are not the same number. We size taxable buildings off Talen’s 960 MW campus figure. Salem Township is $560 million of assessed value; Luzerne County is large enough ($21 billion) that this is a big township story more than a county-wide one.
